About Original Artwork by Leanne Christie
What medium do you use for your paintings?
I work primarily in oil paint, using professional-quality materials on canvas or board. Oil painting allows for exceptional depth, richness of colour, and fine detail, making it ideal for creating timeless, original artworks. Oils also offer excellent longevity when cared for properly, ensuring your painting can be enjoyed for generations. Before the oil paint dries I embellish highlighted areas with glitter, gems or gold leaf.
If you are looking for an original oil painting with vibrancy and depth, this medium is perfectly suited to my artistic style.
Commissioning original artwork is a personal and rewarding experience. Whether you’re looking to invest in a bespoke oil painting for your home or give a meaningful gift, it’s natural to have questions. Below you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about my work, my process, and commissioning a custom painting in the UK.
How do I commission a bespoke painting?
Commissioning a bespoke oil painting is a collaborative process designed to ensure your artwork is truly personal. To begin, simply get in touch via my website contact page to discuss your ideas. We’ll talk through:
Subject matter, concept and style
Preferred size and orientation of canvas
Colour palette and overall mood
If you require framing
Reference photographs or inspiration
Where the painting will be displayed
Your details including delivery address
Once the details are agreed, I will provide a clear quote and an estimated timescale. Payment is required to secure your commission. Throughout the process, I’m happy to share progress updates so you feel involved from start to finish. Before you receive the finished artwork I’ll send you detailed photos or/and videos of your finished painting for you to approve before delivery. If you would like me to tweak the painting I am happy to do so. If the painting is not exactly what you hoped for I will redo the whole painting. It is important to me for you to be 100% happy with your commission.
If you’re looking to commission an artist in the UK, I aim to make the process straightforward, enjoyable, and transparent.
How long does a commissioned oil painting take from blank canvas to delivery?
The time required for a commissioned oil painting depends on its size, complexity, and my current schedule. As a general guide:
Painting time: Most oil paintings take several weeks to complete. Oil paint is applied in layers, allowing depth and detail to develop gradually. I need to allow time between each layer to dry.
Drying time: Oil paint takes longer to dry than other mediums. After completion, a painting usually needs several weeks to become touch dry before it can be safely framed and delivered..
Delivery: Once dry, your painting will be carefully packaged and dispatched. Delivery times vary depending on location.
As soon as you receive your painting it is recommended that you hang it immediately and try not to touch the artwork for a minimum of 6 months. Oil paint, especially impasto artwork can take 12-18 months to become fully cured.
From start to finish, most bespoke oil painting commissions take approximately 6–12 weeks. If you have a specific deadline in mind, such as a special occasion or gift, please let me know as early as possible and I’ll do my best to accommodate your timeline.
